  • INTERNAL DEVELOPMENT

  • All development takes place in-house, where ideas are developed, tested and refined by people who know helmets inside out. Real-world driving experience is part of the development process — helping to turn everyday use into tangible improvements.


    Over the years, this approach has contributed to more than 50 patents applied to Nolan helmets — covering areas such as visor systems, internal sun visors, fit solutions, retention systems and integrated communication.


    Not as isolated innovations, but as small, ongoing steps that make a difference when it matters.

PERFORMANCE ENGINEERING

  • CHIN FLIP-BACK ROTATION

    On the N120-1, the chin rotates backwards up to 180°, creating a compact flip-back configuration.

    This gives riders the freedom of a jet helmet, while maintaining the protection and functionality of a full-face helmet. Even in this position, the large visor and integrated sun visor remain in place — promoting clear vision and a more comfortable, controlled driving experience.

  • VORTICE CONTROL

    The diamond-shaped micro-geometries on the visor are designed to influence airflow at high speed.

    By generating controlled micro-vortices, they help guide air more evenly across the surface of the helmet, reducing turbulence and wind noise.

  • N-COM INTEGRATION

    N-Com is developed alongside Nolan helmets, not simply added as an afterthought.
    N-Com-ready helmets are tested and approved with the communication system installed, helping to preserve comfort, aerodynamics and regulatory compliance.

  • RAS RACETRACK AERODYNAMIC SPOILER

    RAS stands for Racetrack Aerodynamic Spoiler. On track-oriented helmets, the removable spoiler is designed to support aerodynamic stability at high speed.

PROTECTION AND SAFETY

  • MULTIDENSITY EPS

    Multi-density EPS is designed to absorb impact energy under varying conditions — including varying temperatures, speeds and impact surfaces.

    Nolan uses multiple dedicated EPS shells across the entire size range. This allows the helmet to fit the rider's head more precisely, improving both comfort and protection.


    The result is a structure that manages energy more uniformly, allowing the helmet to fit the head more naturally and closely.

  • NERS – NOLAN EMERGENCY RELEASE SYSTEM

    NERS allows qualified emergency responders to remove the grips before removing the helmet.
    This helps reduce movement around the rider's head and neck in critical situations.

  • MICROLOCK2RETENTION SYSTEM

    Microlock2 is Nolan's perfected micrometric retention system, designed for quick and precise closure. Compared to the previous Microlock version, it offers finer increments of adjustment and a more compact design, allowing for a more accurate and comfortable fit — a secure closure with smooth and easy everyday use.

  • DUAL ACTION OPENING SYSTEM

    Dual Action is Nolan's safety opening system for modular helmets. Its double lever mechanism allows for controlled one-handed use, helping to reduce the risk of accidental opening.

    The system is designed to ensure consistent handling in everyday use — balancing ease of use with an added level of security.

  • P/J APPROVAL

    All Nolan modular helmets are tested and certified both as "P" full-face helmets and as "J" open face helmets.
    Although not a standard for all modular helmets on the market, this double approval guarantees safe use in both configurations, offering riders true versatility without compromise.

  • ESS/ I–ESSVISIBILITY SYSTEMS

    Nolan's ESS and I-ESS systems are designed to improve rider visibility, especially during braking and in low light conditions.
    ESS is an additional system within the N-Com range, while I-ESS integrates LED lighting directly into some versions of the X-904. Both solutions help make the driver more visible to other road users.

  • NOLAN x QUIN® COLLABORATION

    QUIN is an intelligent safety system integrated into some versions of the X-904, designed to detect accidents and automatically alert emergency contacts if necessary.
    Using an integrated sensor and a connected app, it can recognize abnormal movements and share the rider's location in critical situations.

  • AIRBOOSTER TECHNOLOGY

    AirBooster Technology is Nolan's ventilation system, featuring channels integrated within the EPS shell, which guide the flow of air through the helmet.
    Fresh air is directed from the front and top intakes to the rear extractors, allowing for targeted ventilation and efficient cooling.

  • LPC – LINER POSITIONING CONTROL

  • LAF – LINER ADJUSTABLE FITTING

    LAF allows you to customize some padding elements of the upper shell with 3 thicknesses in 4 areas.
    This gives riders a more customized fit and helps improve comfort in performance-oriented helmets.

  • EYEWEAR ADAPTIVE SYSTEM

    The Eyewear Adaptive System is designed to create space for glasses inside the helmet.
    Improves comfort for riders who wear glasses by reducing pressure around the temples.

  • N-SERIES LINING

    The N-Series lining is geared towards everyday comfort, using a soft, breathable recycled polyamide fabric to aid in temperature management and a long-lasting fit.


    The choice of material reflects a more conscious approach without compromising performance. The open mesh construction improves airflow within the helmet, while the removable padding and LPC system allow you to easily adjust the fit, adapting to different riding conditions and preferences.

  • X-SERIES LINING

    The X-Series liner is developed for performance-oriented riding, combining a breathable polyamide fabric woven with carbon fibers for advanced thermoregulation, moisture management and anti-static control.


    The selected materials are sourced and developed in Italy, reflecting Nolan's attention to durability and precision at every level. Anatomically shaped cheek pads and customizable top shell padding work together with the LAF system to refine the fit, distributing pressure evenly and keeping the helmet stable during high-intensity riding.

    The Ultra Wide visor offers an extended field of vision for greater awareness and a more open riding experience.
    Made from high-quality polycarbonate, Nolan visors are manufactured in-house to ensure consistent clarity and durability.

  • VPS – VISION PROTECTION SYSTEM

    The integrated VPS sun visor offers adjustable sun protection with 4 or 5 positions and UV protection up to 400 nm. Made of pre-dyed polycarbonate, it guarantees long-lasting color and resistance over time, with anti-fog and anti-scratch treatments. Some models include Nolan's patented automatic recall system for quick retraction.

  • VPS POSITION ADJUSTMENT

    The height of the VPS sun visor can be adjusted in three positions to better adapt to the geometry of each rider's face.
    The adjustment is fixed once via a side lever, which can be positioned using a small tool such as a pen — allowing for a more natural headset position and greater overall comfort.

    Developed with IRID for the X-804 platform, this electronic photochromic viewer reacts to light in less than 0.09 seconds — no battery required.
    It adapts instantly to changing conditions, helping to maintain clear vision and visual comfort, supported by an advanced anti-fog treatment.
